Why this petition matters

Started by Tiffanie Fisher

On 2/16, Hoboken was set on a dangerous path with the City Council majority adopting a special interest ordinance that will gut Hoboken's Campaign Finance Reform laws, bringing Big Money and corruption back into Hoboken’s local government and elections.  Councilmembers Emily Jabbour and Phil Cohen sponsored the legislation and they were joined by Councilmembers Doyle, Russo, and freshman Councilman Quintero casting the necessary fifth vote to pass the ordinance by a vote of 5-3.  Councilmembers Fisher, Giattino and Ramos were the no votes.

Join your neighbors and call for Mayor Bhalla to do the right thing for Hoboken residents and veto this ordinance, say 'NO' to big money in our local elections, and instead of agreeing to weaken our laws, put forth legislation to strengthen our campaign finance laws put in place over two decades by Mayor Dawn Zimmer and thousands of Hoboken residents.

Tell mayor Bhalla to show us that he stands for:

  • Democracy
  • Campaign finance reform, and
  • Always putting Hoboken’s interest first

And that he won't stand for elected officials who want to put their interests before their constituents and tilt the democratic process in their favor.

Since 2004, thousands of Hoboken residents, Mayor Zimmer and many other elected officials and community leaders worked tirelessly on reform legislation to rid corruption, outside interests and big money from Hoboken’s elections and restore integrity back to our local government.

Let's continue the advocacy of those who came before us and keep corruption out of Hoboken government and elections.
